I used paper from Teresa Collins and my nesting circle dies to create this card:

The bright colors and circle design of the Tuesday Trigger reminded me of a celebration.

On trend for this season and the latest Two Dollar Tuesday find are sequins.  Inexpensive, sparkly and colorful sequins add pop to any craft project.  I found sequins under the Darice and Michael’s brands for less than $1USD.  See how I used seuqins here and here.

Okay, I have a confession to make.  I am not a big fan of flower…patterns.  A quick look around my house will reveal there are no flower curtains, pillows, sheets, towels, clothing, you name it.  However, I do appreciate flowers in their natural glory outside.   So I decided to use this week’s Color Throwdown challenge to pay homage to the beautiful flower.

I tend to stick to graphic, basic patterns when I incorporate flowers into my craft pieces.  I used the negative of a rose die cut to create this card.

I’ve noticed that I have been making a lot of cards lately, and so I look forward to sharing a crafty idea inspired by grocery store packaging in my next blog post.  Take care! — Tyra

Just like the Demi Lovato song by the same name, We R Memory’s Keepers Heart Attack Distressing Tool delivers a big punch.  I found this tool at my local Big Box Store (Meijer’s -for those living in the US Midwest) for around 5$USD.  I used the bottom point of the heart shape to distress this small Birthday Cake, demonstrating this tool’s usefulness for smaller distress work for when a gentle touch is necessary.  Encased within the top of the heart is a small blade exposed with the touch of a button. The blade is used for adding a scraped distressed look.  I have not yet used this function as I can not figure out how to hold my paper and scrape at the same time, but I will keep experimenting and share the results.

Although I am a day late with this post, I will file it under $5 Friday for easy reference.  Take care! — Tyra

…I used the same color scheme from The Play Date Cafe Color Splash Challenge and switched to flowers as inspired by this week’s challenge over at CASE Study.

I remember Art History was one of my favorite classes in college.  Studying artistic movements, periods,  focal points and the use of color & light was a welcomed contrast to my science and math classes.  Ultimately, a seed was planted for a growing interest in the foundations of art, design and crafts.

The Art, Craft and Design series will explore and highlight techniques, theory and history of, you guessed it, art, crafts and design.  I hope you find this series provides a starting point to help you find your own artistic, creative and crafty niche.

I used Copics to color in the butterfly as well as one of the banners to pull together the color combination from the challenge. During the process of working on product reviews and other crafty inspiration last week, I remembered how versatile alcohol ink markers are for color blending.

I’m back with another birthday card made using Detailz Dies, Letterpress Paper and Copics.  I love the embossed detail & texture achieved using the letterpress paper.  I used Copics to add some blended color to the candles. I love, love, love the Copics on the letterpress paper.

This card is for my husband’s birthday coming up very soon, so shh!  Enjoy your weekend!
