I find that working both inside and outside of the home, volunteering and, of course, writing this blog, often does not leave enough time to sit, read, daydream and search out sources of creative inspiration. The only personal contemplative time I may have during the week is found in the shower or while driving to work. Fortunately, my creative drive has opened my eyes to the creative inspiration found in some unexpected places and, in my case, the bathroom of all places!
For instance, I use my eyeshadow palette frequently and realized not only do I love the colors on the inside of the case, but I LOVE the two-toned color palette on the outside of the case. I used my eyeshadow case as a source of inspiration to create this simple but sophisticated birthday card.
My deodorant package is another source of creative inspiration. Look at the words “gofresh.” What I love about this design is the two-toned color of the message. The green colored “fresh” complements the rest of the packaging. I created a simple friendship card using pink to highlight the word friendship. The sentiment showcases a striking contrast of colors and emphasizes the importance of friendship. One could color the flower pink to further emphasize the contrasting colors.

Look no further, great graphic design and creative inspiration is all around you. In the meantime, keep it crafty!

When I first started making my own cards I used to find interesting patterns within my household and sometimes I would run off a copy on my printer to use as a background. Some of my bed linen gave interesting results with the thread showing through. There wasn’t much that I would look at that didn’t give me inspiration so I know how you are also inspired.
Julie – I am definitely going to try making a copy of patterns I find interesting to use as a background. Thanks for sharing this idea
