I have owned the Fiskars Shape Cutter and templates for over seven years now and I am amazed at how many times I have reached for these tools. These tools are very portable, store nicely and are easy to use after an initial period of practice. More specifically, a period of practice spent making sure the template is on the right side (the side where you can read the word “Fiskars”) and applying the right amount of (light) pressure on the template with one hand so you can cut with the other hand. Please note, the Shape Cutter shown in my pictures is over seven years old and since that time Fiskars has released an updated Shape cutter, the Ultra Shapexpress.
I have used the Bracket & Journal template for Christmas and gift tags. I have used the circle template for cutting out downloadable tag sets with no worry about having to cut in the middle of a page (no need for buying those new punch anywhere punches). I’ve also used both the Bracket & Journal template and the circle template to create custom edges for my mini albums.
I reached out to Fiskars to find out if there are any plans to offer a triangle template (Think: summer, fall banner projects and Christmas trees in the winter!). I will share their response as soon as I receive it.
In the meantime, if these tools are gathering dust in your craft closet, take them out and rediscover how handy they are! If you do not yet own a set, borrow one from a friend for a test-drive. There are also several instructional videos on YouTube. I can’t say this enough, but I think you will be surprised at how the shape cutter tool and templates are an affordable, easy and portable solution for your basic craft cutting needs.
